A Salt River Fire Department Battalion chief called Scott on Monday and asked to meet with him. Scott said sure, and asked what time and where. The Battalion chief said, "We would like to meet with you in your home on Wednesday at 1:00 p.m." Neither of us had ever heard of anyone coming to your house with what we were hoping was a job offer. I have to tell you it was so hard to wait for Wednesday to come around. Scott couldn't sleep. It was like waiting for Christmas and having no idea what you were going to get. The chief actually showed up a little early. He met all of the kids and sat down with the offer. Of course we took it, and we're excited to start this next adventure. He starts work for them on the 25th of August. His 15 week academy ends December 19th. The academy will be Monday-Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in Tempe. It will be strange but great to have him home every night for the next few months. I know Scott is a little sad to leave the Gila River Indian Reservation. He met a lot of great people there and made some great friends, including the late Corey Lawton, the firefighter our youngest son is named after.
