Band of Brothers

Here's a picture of Scott's academy class. (Scott is the tall guy all the way to the right. You need to click on the picture to really see it). They are all on fire trucks now. Some of them have fought their first "real" fire. Scott's station had 11 calls on Christmas Eve. No fires, just sick people. That makes me feel better. It made for one tired Scott on Christmas morning. We opened gifts as soon as he got home, then Scott took a 3 hour nap. After that he made a Christmas goose. (It was something he always wanted to try for Christmas dinner). I don't think we'll make that again. It was really greasy. (photo courtesy of leegrantphoto.com)

The Graduate

The happy day finally arrived. Scott graduated from his fire academy!! He received an award for having the top academic grade in the class. I am so proud of him. His first day on a fire truck will be Wednesday, Christmas Eve. We have always had to adjust our holiday celebrations a little bit with his 24 hour shift schedule. It looks like it will have to happen again this year. My poor kids don't know what day Christmas really is because we've celebrated on different days for so long. Hopefully I can distract them this year long enough for Scott to get home Christmas morning!

Now that we are back to our 24 hour shift schedule, things should calm down quite a bit around here. I know I couldn't have handled this crazy 18 weeks without my amazing friends and sister. Thanks for letting me vent when it got to be too much. Thanks for taking my kids when I needed to go to the grocery store, doctors' office, dentist, salon, alone. I can't ever begin to repay you, but I will die trying.

This new year will be interesting for us. Scott is going to start Cross Fit training in our backyard on his days off. Cross Fit is the workout routine Scott did at the academy. He lost 30 pounds over the 18 week period, so it works. If anybody is interested, you're welcome to join us. (photo courtesy of leegrantphoto.com)

Fire! Fire!

It was "take your camera to work" day last week. Scott's fire academy class has been learning about wild land fire fighting. They let them start a bunch of dead stuff on fire, then they had to put it out. I can't believe people get paid to do this! (Those of you who haven't seen Scott lately will probably note his 20 lb weight loss...I told him if we ever weigh the same, I will need to be committed. I hope he has hit his "ideal" weight. Goodness knows I hit mine 40 lbs ago)!

Happy Father's Day and Anniversary to my sweet Hubby!

Even though father's day was a few days ago, I still wanted to make sure my sweet husband knew how much I appreciate him. He is the best dad ever! Our kids love to jump on him and pretend he's a jungle gym. He loves taking them to the grocery store. (Personally, I think this is on the verge of CRAZY)! He is a good example of a very hard worker and provider. He takes the kids to the park to fly his airplanes, he's always willing to help bathe, diaper, dress, etc. I can't imagine a better person to share my life and all eternity with. I'm so lucky to have him as a partner in this crazy thing we call life. I love you so much and the last 7 wonderful, crazy, hard, challenging, GREAT years we've had together.

Burn baby burn!!

Scott's fire academy is almost done!! Yee ha!! As part of their certification process, they have to enter a burning building, put a fire out and recover a "body". We all got to go watch. I should have brought marshmellows. Luckily, it was unseasonably cold, so it wasn't too bad sitting out there for 5 hours. It even rained a little bit. Honestly though, who can complain about watching a bunch of guys run around in fire fighter gear?!? I certainly can't!! :-) A good time was had by all. Good going Scott!
